Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology is exploring avenues for collaboration with NVIDIA covering artificial intelligence, computing, digital skills development and support for innovation, following a meeting between the country’s information and communications technology minister, Raafat Hendy, and NVIDIA’s vice president for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Paolo Guglielmini. The discussion centred on preparing a memorandum of understanding that would formally outline the proposed areas of cooperation between the two sides.
NVIDIA said the potential collaboration is intended to help solidify Egypt’s position as a key regional artificial intelligence hub, with the aim of transforming the country into a prime global destination for technology outsourcing, consulting services and advanced AI infrastructure. Beyond this broader positioning goal, the meeting also explored opportunities for joint research and development in artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies, alongside efforts focused on local talent development and support for entrepreneurs and start-ups operating within Egypt’s technology ecosystem. Discussions additionally covered access to specialised technical and training content, along with opportunities to draw on NVIDIA’s existing training programmes in artificial intelligence, deep learning and the training of trainers, an approach intended to help build a broader base of qualified instructors capable of extending AI education more widely within the country.
According to the ministry, both sides discussed ways to strengthen Egypt’s domestic computing and artificial intelligence capabilities in order to better serve the needs of developers, researchers and institutions operating within the country. Hendy highlighted several key indicators reflecting the information and communications technology sector’s role as a major driver of Egypt’s economic growth, and outlined what he described as an integrated approach to harnessing artificial intelligence technologies for tangible economic, developmental and societal impact. This approach includes initiatives aimed at improving government operations, upskilling the domestic workforce, supporting broader development efforts and creating artificial intelligence applications intended to serve the public interest, alongside continued efforts to cultivate homegrown Egyptian talent equipped with advanced and specialised AI skills.
Guglielmini pointed to Egypt’s existing talent base and stated ambition to become an influential force in artificial intelligence innovation, suggesting NVIDIA could help accelerate that goal through its broader ecosystem of accelerated computing, software and AI tools, combined with training programmes designed to help developers translate their ideas into practical, deployable applications. He also highlighted what he described as significant opportunities for NVIDIA to support Egypt’s artificial intelligence ecosystem in developing solutions tailored to local needs while remaining capable of reaching global markets, framing the potential partnership as one that could serve both domestic and international commercial objectives simultaneously.
The discussion additionally reviewed the ministry’s ongoing efforts to advance the country’s innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem through its network of Creativa Innovation Hubs, a nationwide initiative designed to provide a supportive environment for developing technological skills, nurturing innovators and backing entrepreneurs and start-ups across Egypt. The meeting also touched on the key pillars and goals of the second edition of Egypt’s National AI Strategy, which spans the period from 2025 to 2030, along with progress made so far in implementing the strategy and further opportunities to support these efforts through skills development, continued innovation and the expanded use of artificial intelligence applications across various sectors of the economy.
