During an official visit to Pakistan, H.E. Rashad Nabiyev, the Azerbaijani Minister for Digital Development and Transport, engaged in discussions that underscored the potential for tech collaboration between the two nations. One of his key meetings was a private conversation with Amb. Dr. Mohammad Nafees Zakaria, the Executive Director of COMSATS, held a meeting at the Secretariat. The talks encompassed a wide array of concepts aimed at fostering cooperation on technology projects, with a particular focus on IT and digitalization ventures.

A significant highlight of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between COMSATS and the Innovation and Digital Development Agency (IDDA) of Azerbaijan. The agreement, which pertains to an ICT and Technology Training Program for Skill Development, was formalized in the presence of Minister Nabiyev.

The signing ceremony garnered the attendance of ambassadors, diplomats from COMSATS member countries, as well as distinguished Pakistani technology experts and innovators associated with COMSATS’ partner and affiliate organizations. The collective gathering showcased the strong commitment to fostering technological advancements and collaborations.

The tech landscape in both nations is enriched by leaders of modern software houses, technology parks, incubation centers, data facilities, and enterprises focusing on renewable energy and electric vehicles (EVs).

Minister Rashad Nabiyev also held a private dialogue with technologists during his visit, expressing his appreciation to COMSATS for the constructive and insightful discussions that transpired.

Amb. Dr. Mohammad Nafees Zakaria, in his remarks, reaffirmed COMSATS’ steadfast dedication to bridging the technology and knowledge divide between the global North and the global South through impactful South-South Cooperation.

At the heart of this endeavor lies the Innovation and Digital Development Agency (IDDA) of Azerbaijan, a governmental entity entrusted with advancing innovation, technology, and digitalization within the country. The agency’s central mission revolves around nurturing the digital economy’s growth, augmenting technological capabilities, and steering digital transformation across diverse sectors.

A pivotal architect of digital policies and initiatives, IDDA bolsters the digital ecosystem by championing startups, technology-driven entrepreneurship, research and development, and digital infrastructure. This is achieved through close collaboration with local and international stakeholders, industry players, and educational institutions, cultivating an environment ripe for innovation and digital progress.
