Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari has intervened to address concerns regarding non-crediting of electricity units for net metering consumers following instructions issued by Power Planning and Monitoring Company (PPMC). According to a tweet by Power Division on X, the instructions were immediately reviewed and the issue of crediting units for affected consumers has now been resolved. The review comes after complaints from consumers whose solar energy contributions to the national grid had not been accurately accounted for, resulting in delayed or missing credits on their bills.
Officials from Power Division noted that some net metering consumers had installed solar systems with capacities exceeding the limits approved under their licenses. In these cases, some consumers did not receive credit for electricity supplied to the grid during the last month. The initial approach of withholding credit entirely for such consumers was later deemed inappropriate. Under the revised instructions, only electricity generated beyond the approved capacity will not be credited, while all units supplied within the licensed capacity will now be fully credited. This adjustment ensures fairness for consumers while maintaining regulatory compliance. To implement the revised policy, Power Division has issued formal instructions to all power distribution companies (DISCOs). These instructions require DISCOs to credit eligible electricity units for consumers within approved capacities and to make necessary adjustments for units that were not credited in previous bills. These corrections will be reflected in the next billing cycle, ensuring that consumers receive their rightful electricity credits without further delay. Officials emphasized that the revisions are aimed at safeguarding consumer rights and supporting the adoption of solar energy under net metering policies.
Federal Minister Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari reaffirmed that the government is committed to ensuring fair treatment of electricity consumers. He emphasized that no compromise will be made on delivering legitimate rights and that the Power Division will continue monitoring policies to maintain transparency and consistency in the sector. The intervention also highlights the government’s efforts to strengthen net metering regulations, encourage renewable energy adoption, and provide clarity for consumers participating in solar energy initiatives. By addressing these concerns promptly, the ministry aims to build trust among solar energy users and support Pakistan’s broader renewable energy objectives.
