Pakistan has taken a step toward building a more future ready engineering technology workforce with the formal launch of new Level 6 Bachelor of Engineering Technology programmes in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Electronics. The qualifications were developed by the National University of Technology in collaboration with the National Technology Council, working alongside academia and industry to bring international standards and practical industry requirements directly into the classroom.
Developed with support from the European Union and Germany, the new programmes incorporate outcome based education, mandatory industrial training, and green skills components across all four engineering disciplines. The qualifications have also been benchmarked internationally against the Sydney Accord, a global agreement among organizations that accredit engineering technology programmes, giving the new Pakistani qualifications a recognized international standard to align with as they roll out across the country.
According to NUTECH, the qualifications were developed and validated in just seven months, a relatively short timeframe achieved without compromising quality or industry relevance. With formal endorsement from the National Technology Council now secured, the programmes are ready to be rolled out across institutions in Pakistan, supported by coaching and mentoring initiatives aimed at helping participating institutes and faculty members adapt to the new curriculum structure.
The initiative reflects a broader push, supported jointly by the European Union and German Development Cooperation, to build a more competitive and industry aligned engineering workforce in Pakistan. Officials involved in the programme’s development say the new qualifications are intended to create expanded opportunities for the country’s youth while contributing to a more resilient and inclusive economy, positioning technical and vocational education as a key component of Pakistan’s broader workforce development strategy going forward.
