The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has initiated the process to introduce a fresh bill in order to expedite the legislative process on the Pakistan Telecommunications Re-organization Amendment Bill 2026. According to a press release issued by the ministry, MoITT has begun withdrawing the bill from the Senate, as its stipulated 90-day period was approaching completion.
Upon expiry of the prescribed period, the bill would have proceeded to a joint sitting of Parliament, a step the ministry noted may not take place in the near future given the current legislative schedule. To avoid delays under these circumstances, the ministry decided to introduce a fresh bill covering the same subject matter, allowing the legislative process to continue in a timely manner while retaining the essence of the originally proposed legislation.
The move reflects a procedural approach aimed at keeping the reforms outlined in the amendment bill on track, rather than allowing them to stall due to the uncertainty around when a joint sitting of Parliament might be convened. By reintroducing the bill through a fresh legislative track, the ministry is seeking to preserve the substance of the proposed changes to Pakistan’s telecommunications reorganization framework while working within the procedural timelines set by Parliament.
