Jazz Deploys Pakistan’s First 1.2 Tbps Per Wavelength Optical Network With Huawei

Jazz has advanced Pakistan’s telecom infrastructure by becoming the first mobile operator in the country to deploy 1.2 terabits per second per wavelength on its optical transport network. The development reflects a notable upgrade in the nation’s core digital capacity and positions the operator to better manage the steady rise in data consumption across mobile and enterprise segments. The deployment was completed in collaboration with Huawei and represents a step forward in strengthening high-capacity, next-generation connectivity nationwide.

The newly implemented optical technology significantly enhances Jazz’s core and aggregation networks, allowing them to carry substantially higher volumes of data with improved efficiency. As data-intensive services continue to expand, including cloud-based platforms, digital business solutions, and advanced mobile broadband, the increased per-wavelength capacity enables smoother traffic flow and reduced network congestion. The architecture has been designed with scalability in focus, ensuring that additional capacity can be introduced as demand grows, while also maintaining resilience across the network to support uninterrupted services for both consumers and businesses.

In addition to the 1.2 Tbps deployment, Jazz has also introduced Pakistan’s first 100 Gbps Fiber-to-the-Site ring, setting another benchmark within the local telecom sector. This upgrade strengthens last-mile fiber performance, which plays a critical role in supporting enterprise connectivity, mobile backhaul operations, and data-heavy digital applications. By improving throughput and reliability at the access level, the FTTS ring enhances service quality for enterprise customers while also reinforcing the backbone required for modern mobile networks. The combination of higher core capacity and improved fiber access creates a more balanced and efficient end-to-end network environment.

Khalid Shehzad, Chief Technology Officer of JazzWorld, stated that these milestones reflect the company’s commitment to designing a network that can support evolving traffic patterns and increasingly complex enterprise requirements. He noted that the upgrades allow Jazz to scale its infrastructure without compromising performance or reliability, even as usage continues to grow across multiple segments. The emphasis on future-ready design aligns with the broader industry shift toward networks that can accommodate emerging technologies and diverse digital use cases.

The latest investments underline Jazz’s continued focus on network innovation and its long-term approach to supporting Pakistan’s digital development. By adopting advanced optical transport solutions and strengthening fiber infrastructure, the operator is contributing to a more robust connectivity ecosystem. These developments support digital inclusion, enterprise growth, and the expansion of next-generation services, reinforcing the role of telecom infrastructure as a key enabler of economic and technological progress in Pakistan.
