The federal government has launched electronic balloting for the distribution of electric motorcycles and rickshaws under the Pakistan Accelerated Vehicle Electrification (PAVE) Scheme, marking a large-scale step in making cleaner transport options more accessible. The digital draw was inaugurated by Federal Secretary for Industries and Production Saif Anjum, with oversight from the Engineering Development Board (EDB). The event was attended by CEO Khuda Bux and Additional Secretary Asif Saeed Lughmani, highlighting the government’s intent to support affordable and environmentally friendly transport alternatives.
A total of 40,000 electric motorcycles and 1,000 electric rickshaws were allotted to citizens across Pakistan, including applicants from Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir. The Ministry confirmed that more than 269,000 applications were submitted through the PAVE Online Portal, reflecting strong public demand for cost-effective electric vehicles. To ensure transparency, a committee supervised the balloting, and applicants have been given the option to verify their results using either their CNIC or application ID. Under the scheme, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) will oversee the process of delivery, warranties, and after-sales support, ensuring that customers have reliable service after purchasing the vehicles.
The subsidy structure under the program has been designed to make electric vehicles more affordable for both leased and self-financed buyers. Citizens purchasing electric two-wheelers through bank leasing will receive Rs. 50,000 in support, while those opting for self-financing will receive Rs. 80,000. For electric rickshaws, the subsidy is Rs. 200,000 for leasing arrangements and Rs. 400,000 for self-financed purchases. By extending these incentives, the government hopes to accelerate adoption of electric mobility, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and provide citizens with more economical alternatives to traditional vehicles.
Officials emphasized that the scheme aligns with the objectives of the National Electric Vehicle Policy (NEVP), which targets long-term sustainability through reduced fuel imports and lower environmental impact. According to government projections, the adoption of these vehicles will save approximately $1 billion annually in fuel costs, cut 4.5 million tons of carbon emissions, and support the creation of more than 100,000 new green jobs. These figures underline the broader economic and environmental benefits of transitioning to electric transport, not only reducing pressure on the country’s energy imports but also providing employment opportunities in the growing electric vehicle ecosystem. The launch of the PAVE Scheme represents a significant step in shaping a more sustainable transport future for Pakistan.
