Microsoft has finally created a laptop which can replace your tablet. Surface Book is basically a Laptop and a Tablet in a single device so, now instead of having two separate devices you can have a single device which can be used either way. Surface Book has a 13.5 inch detachable touchscreen and a full size, sturdy keyboard, a perfect size for both Laptop and Tablet.
Design and Build
The Surface book measures 312x232mm and is 13mm at its thinnest point and 23mm at its thickest. Only Tablet part is 7.7mm thick and weighs 728g whereas with keyboard attached, the total weight is 1.5kg. It’s really easy to detach screen from keyboard. Instead of yanking it off like with the magnetic keyboards in other devices, there’s a button for this. Just press the button and hold it until a notification pops up on the screen indicating that screen can be detached now. Then, it can be detached easily without any force. The screen goes back into place without much struggle thanks to the hard-wearing, capable of bending all the way back and cleverly designed Dynamic Fulcrum Hinge. It can also fold backwards and become a tablet without detaching the keyboard but it’s not clear why would someone use it like this, maybe it’s there to keep keyboard from getting misplaced.
Hardware and Specs
With either the latest core i5 or core i7 and with either 8GB or 16GB of RAM, Surface Book is one power-packed computing machine. It comes with flesh storage options ranging from 128GB to 1TB. As for connectivity, the book offers 802.11 ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 LE. There are also cameras built-on to the Surface Book – an 8MP on the rear and 5MP on the front. It also has front and rear facing microphones and front facing stereo speakers. The Surface Book has a sharp 13.5-inch screen, displaying 3,000 x 2,000 pixels, thanks to its 3:2 aspect ratio which works just fine with much better scaling of Windows 10.
When it comes to inputs, it has 2 3.0 USB ports, full-sized SD card reader, mini Display Port, a headphone/microphone jack and the firm’s own Surface Connect port for power and docking. When it comes to battery life, Microsoft claims that it’ll last for 12 hours between charges.
Surface Book is probably Microsoft’s answer to MacBook Pro, but we have to see what general public’s response is. It is available at $1,499, with a sixth-gen Intel Core i5 processor, a 128GB solid-state drive and 8GB of RAM. Considering the Pakistani market, the price is little high which puts it out of reach of the vast majority of consumers but given the impressive specs and a stylish new look, it will definitely attract the gadget lovers and people who want high-performance devices to support their work.
