Whether LOLXX means laugh out loud, or Lots Of Love, our young generation is good enough to figure out the correct meaning of the slang they use.

Short messaging has become a major source of communication as it offers real-time conversation with multiple people at the same time. Newer technologies have enforced this new trend of instant text messaging, receiving preference over making a call. Being widely influenced our social lives and personal lives, it is easier and hassle free. Perhaps something which even a toddler is familiar with this app called Whatsapp, viber, Line etc used to interact along with that, upset :(, naughty :-p, amazement @@, a wink 😉 and many other ways that people use to express themselves in punctuation marks assembled to form an emotion.

English language is under attack. Short messaging has given birth to a new improper language which is extracted from formal English, referred to as ‘slang.’  This new language has introduced a new vocabulary such cops, loony, bucks, yummy, kids, rug rats etc. Expression like mehh, duh and tsk tsk are enough to convey the meaning.

These days it has become a trend, children are more familiar with ipads, iPhones, tablets then books. They learn typing a message first and then learn how to write on paper holding a pen. I remember the day when I turned 17, my father gifted me an iPhone. But now, as soon as a child turns 10, he wants a cell phone. It has great impact, in terms of behavioral and educational performances of young ones. Reviewing this, such instances reveal that upcoming technologies are highly effecting social and academic growth of adolescents.

Whereas short messaging techniques remain a cause of concern for many academics. Students who use it have poor grammar, bad punctuation and are not good at sentence formation along with countless spelling mistakes, resulting in lower grades.

While academics are raising concern the tech sector too has its eyebrows raised. A survey called Robert Half Technology Survey was conducted in 2011, in which more than 54% of the CIO’s said real-time workplace communication will surpass classic emails. 13% of the respondents said, messaging will be more popular than emails, whereas 41% of the respondents were neutral.

Not just this, use of slang language is popular in business writing. Even people with high profile use such language in formal writing. Supervisors use such phrases in commanding juniors, ending up in undesirable outcome. Employers should practice extreme caution from using such phrases. This also creates an image of unprofessionalism and casual atittude as we see that you turn into  ‘U’ and you’re turned your. These minor things that are never noticed creates a not very good  impression.

Its use has become common creating numerous problems, like; people are getting fired from their workplace due to the usage of such unprofessional language in formal documents, emails etc. Most of the time, we are unable to spell even simple words, due to incessant use of  short forms of words.

English language has changed to some alien language. Many meaningless words  like kinky, crap, pissed, prat, yob etc,  are getting high acceptance within society.

Short messaging has lead to the destruction of our writing patterns but a larger part of the problem remains without checks and balance in our life. Short messaging is easier and quicker but it is greatly impacting our writing leaving us dependent on MS Word to correct all our typos (typing errors) and spellings. People feel that usage of this language will make them cool; eliminating the fact that use of such language makes them come of as adults trying to fit in.
