The Punjab government has announced a 10 percent discount on Motor Vehicle Token Tax for citizens who clear their dues through the e-Pay Punjab digital payment system before the August 31, 2026 deadline. The initiative is designed to encourage timely tax compliance while pushing more citizens toward the province’s digital payment infrastructure instead of relying on physical visits to government offices.
To claim the discount, vehicle owners must process their payments through the e-Pay Punjab platform rather than through traditional in person channels. The system eliminates the need to stand in physical queues, allowing citizens to complete their Token Tax payments from their homes while avoiding late payment penalties that apply after the deadline passes. Officials said the digital route not only saves time for taxpayers but also helps ensure their compliance with applicable government regulations without requiring interaction with intermediaries or agents who have historically been associated with delays and added costs in manual tax collection processes.
The e-Pay Punjab system was developed by the Punjab Information Technology Board in collaboration with the Punjab Finance Department, and functions as the province’s first digital payment aggregator for public to government and business to government transactions. The platform allows citizens to generate a unique payment slip identification number that can then be used across multiple payment channels, including mobile banking, internet banking, ATMs, over the counter payments, mobile wallets, and telecom agents, giving taxpayers considerable flexibility in how they complete their transactions. Since its launch, the system has processed tens of millions of transactions and collected hundreds of billions of rupees in tax revenue across dozens of levies spanning more than twenty government departments, including sales tax, property tax, motor vehicle registration, and token tax.
Speaking on the initiative this past Monday, Punjab Information Technology Board Chairman Faisal Yousaf highlighted the provincial government’s broader digital vision behind the discount offer. He stated that the e-Pay system delivers a modern, secure, and transparent mechanism for handling government payments, with the main objective being to make public services more accessible to citizens while creating a convenient and efficient user experience through continued adoption of digital technologies. Yousaf has previously credited the platform with significantly reducing the need for physical visits to government offices and curbing the influence of middlemen in the tax collection process, framing the current discount initiative as an extension of that broader push toward digital governance.
The move fits into a wider pattern of incentives the Punjab government has rolled out in recent years to accelerate adoption of e-Pay Punjab across various tax categories, with the platform continuing to add new services aimed at improving convenience for citizens. As more vehicle owners take advantage of the discount ahead of the August deadline, officials expect the initiative to further boost digital transaction volumes on the platform while reducing the administrative burden associated with processing token tax payments manually across the province’s motor registration offices.
