The Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) has successfully concluded another session under its Global Advisory & Innovation Network (GAIN), bringing together industry professionals to explore how Pakistan can transition from being primarily a technology services provider to becoming a creator of high-value technology products. The session was led by Dr. Maheera Abdul Ghani, a Cambridge-trained materials scientist, Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia 2026 honouree and founder of a University of Cambridge deep-tech startup, who shared her expertise on building a globally competitive innovation ecosystem.
The discussion focused on the role of artificial intelligence, deep-tech, semiconductor design, research commercialization and intellectual property in shaping Pakistan’s future technology landscape. Participants received practical guidance on leveraging the country’s growing talent pool, securing non-dilutive funding, strengthening collaboration between academia and industry, and developing product-oriented technology businesses capable of competing in international markets. The session emphasized that sustained investment in innovation and research will be essential for Pakistan to move beyond traditional IT services and establish itself as a producer of cutting-edge technologies.
Dr. Maheera highlighted the importance of owning innovation by accelerating research and development through AI, strengthening product-focused capabilities and creating intellectual property that can generate long-term economic value. She encouraged participants to view research commercialization as a strategic priority while fostering stronger links between universities, startups and the private sector to transform scientific research into globally competitive technology solutions.
Through the GAIN initiative, PSEB continues to connect Pakistan’s IT industry with internationally recognized experts, creating opportunities for knowledge exchange, collaboration and innovation. The programme forms part of PSEB’s broader efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s technology ecosystem, enhance the competitiveness of local IT companies and support the country’s ambition of expanding high-value technology exports through innovation-driven growth.
