The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has launched a nationwide Digital Cashless Payment System across major airports, allowing passengers to make instant digital payments for airport services through QR codes and Raast, the State Bank of Pakistan’s real-time payment platform. This initiative marks a significant milestone in modernizing Pakistan’s aviation sector by promoting digital transactions that ensure convenience, transparency, and security for millions of travelers. By eliminating cash handling at airports, PAA is moving toward a smarter, more efficient, and digitally connected infrastructure aligned with the Digital Pakistan vision.

Supervised by the Director General (Commercial & Administration) at PAA, the project enables travelers to pay airport fees and charges digitally by scanning QR codes available at designated counters using their mobile or internet banking applications. Once the QR code is scanned, payments are instantly processed via Raast, and travelers receive an electronic receipt confirming completion. This streamlined approach makes transactions faster while enhancing traceability and operational efficiency. The system represents a coordinated effort between PAA, the State Bank of Pakistan, and commercial banks, integrating public services with the country’s growing digital payment ecosystem.

Through the Raast integration, the cashless payment system ensures real-time settlement of transactions and provides complete transparency across all digital platforms. Travelers can now use their smartphones to make payments for services such as parking, lounge access, baggage handling, and airport access charges. Initially implemented at major airports in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, and Multan, the system will soon expand to regional airports nationwide. PAA also plans to connect the system with POS terminals, self-service kiosks, and airport mobile apps, providing multiple payment options to further improve user convenience and accessibility.

According to PAA officials, the initiative is designed to elevate the passenger experience while aligning Pakistan’s airports with global standards of smart airport management. The digital model ensures compliance with cybersecurity regulations and modern financial frameworks established by SBP. It also helps reduce operational costs, accelerate processing times, and enhance transparency in financial transactions. Additionally, the move supports environmental sustainability through reduced paper consumption and lower emissions from traditional cash management operations.

Digital experts and passengers have welcomed this development, calling it a major advancement in Pakistan’s journey toward a cashless economy. The initiative is expected to increase the adoption of Raast and encourage broader participation in digital financial systems across the country. As Pakistan continues to digitize public services, the Pakistan Airports Authority’s cashless payment system demonstrates how innovation and collaboration between government institutions and the banking sector can enhance national infrastructure, strengthen public trust, and make travel simpler and more secure for everyone.
