Bloodborne remains one of the most beloved action role playing games developed by FromSoftware and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, more than ten years after its original release. Despite its lasting popularity, the game has never received a PlayStation 5 port or PC remaster, a gap that even former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida has now publicly described as a mystery.
Speaking during a keynote session at CEDEC 2026, where he reflected on his three decade career in the gaming industry, Yoshida addressed the game directly after discussing Demon’s Souls, another FromSoftware title that originally created friction between the studio and PlayStation before their relationship was repaired through the development of Bloodborne. Yoshida noted that fans regularly point out that PlayStation’s first party teams have continued releasing remasters of other titles, questioning why Bloodborne has been left out of that pattern, and said he is frequently asked why a PS5 version or PC release has not materialized, adding that the reason remains unclear even to him.
The PlayStation 5 is fully capable of running the original PlayStation 4 version of Bloodborne at higher resolutions and frame rates well above 60 frames per second, underscoring that the absence of an official upgrade is not a technical limitation. The game’s continued popularity has also fueled unofficial efforts to bring it to modern hardware, including the development of the ShadPS4 emulator, which was built in large part around enabling Bloodborne to run on PC at enhanced resolution and frame rate. Reports have also indicated that Bluepoint Games pitched a full remake of the title in 2025, an offer that was ultimately turned down by FromSoftware.
While Yoshida did not offer a definitive answer for the continued delay, he stopped short of ruling out a future return for the franchise, saying it might eventually be released, and that a sequel could also still be made, adding as a fan that he genuinely hopes to see it happen. Any renewed attention to the franchise is likely to depend heavily on FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki, whose creative direction shaped the original game and who is currently focused on the studio’s upcoming title, The Duskbloods, reportedly the most time intensive project in the company’s history to date.
