Pakistan and China explored fresh avenues for cooperation in maritime connectivity, railway electrification, and transport infrastructure, with both sides agreeing to strengthen institutional coordination and pursue priority projects in railway electrification, port logistics, and smart transport systems under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor. The development came as Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, on an official visit to China, met with Li Lei, Vice President of China Railway Electrification Engineering Group, known as EEB, in Beijing.
EEB is among China’s leading engineering firms, specializing in railway electrification, urban transit systems, and large scale transport infrastructure. During the meeting, the two sides deliberated on potential collaboration in railway electrification, port connectivity, logistics infrastructure, and smart transportation systems, along with other strategic projects aimed at supporting Pakistan’s maritime economy and deepening regional trade ties.
Chaudhry said partnering with leading Chinese engineering firms would help build efficient, resilient, and technology driven transport networks connecting Pakistan’s ports with inland economic corridors, thereby enhancing trade competitiveness and supporting sustainable economic growth. He further underlined the government’s resolve to modernize the country’s ports, promote sustainable infrastructure, and draw international investment into the sector.
EEB’s leadership, for its part, voiced interest in exploring investment and technical collaboration opportunities in Pakistan and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting the country’s infrastructure development through innovative engineering solutions and international partnerships. Chaudhry extended an invitation to Li Lei to visit Pakistan to explore investment and infrastructure prospects, which the EEB Vice President accepted, signaling continued interest in expanding the company’s engagement in the country as part of the broader CPEC framework.
