Educative.io, a text based technical learning platform used by engineers at some of the world’s largest technology companies, was founded by two brothers from Pakistan, Fahim ul Haq and Naeem ul Haq. Both left engineering roles at Facebook and Microsoft respectively to build a hands on, text based alternative to conventional video courses aimed at helping software engineers prepare for technical interviews and deepen their practical coding skills.
The platform has grown to serve more than three million learners worldwide, with users spanning major technology companies including Netflix, Google, Amazon, Apple and Meta. Educative built its approach around interactive, browser based coding environments rather than passive video content, allowing learners to write and run code directly within lessons instead of switching between a video player and a separate development environment. The platform’s widely used System Design Interview courses have become a common resource for engineers preparing for technical interviews at major technology firms.
Despite its global user base, the platform’s core engineering team remains based in Lahore, reflecting a broader pattern among Pakistani founded technology companies that build and scale internationally while keeping key technical operations rooted locally. The company’s growth has occurred largely outside the public eye in Pakistan, with many users around the world unaware that a platform central to their technical preparation and career development was built by Pakistani founders and continues to be engineered out of the country.
Educative’s trajectory reflects a broader trend of Pakistani built technology products gaining significant international traction, often without widespread domestic recognition of their origins. As organizations such as the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication and the Pakistan Software Export Board continue highlighting homegrown technology companies through initiatives promoting Pakistan as a technology destination, cases like Educative are increasingly being cited as examples of the country’s growing but often understated presence in the global technology and education sectors.
