GoPro has released its first wireless microphone system, entering a crowded accessory category dominated by established audio brands as the company looks to strengthen its appeal to vloggers and content creators. The Wireless Mic System is available in three configurations, including a two mic bundle priced at $159, a USB only version at $80, and a line transmitter kit at $50.

The kit includes two wireless transmitter microphones along with two receivers designed for different device types, one offering 3.5mm connectivity with a headphone monitoring port for DSLR and mirrorless cameras, and a smaller USB-C receiver intended for phones and computers. A charging case included with the kit provides roughly 20 hours of total use, with each microphone lasting about six hours per charge. The overall package is notably compact compared with rival systems from DJI and Insta360, with the microphones themselves weighing just 10 grams each and attaching to clothing through magnets or built in clips.

The system’s main selling point is its ability to connect directly to GoPro cameras without requiring a physical receiver, a feature that had previously made competitor products more convenient for GoPro users despite not being official accessories. Pairing is handled through a simple sequence of button presses that switches the microphone into Bluetooth mode, after which the camera automatically recognizes and connects to it. Only one microphone can connect this way at a time, however, with the hardware receivers required to use both microphones simultaneously and to access higher audio quality overall.

Sound quality across both connection methods has been described as a strong point for the new system, delivering clear audio with effective background noise handling in most environments, and outperforming the built in microphone on GoPro’s media mod accessory. Some usability issues remain, including a display quirk that shows only one active microphone even when both are recording, and the absence of a mono conversion option when using the USB receiver, requiring users to fix the issue in editing software afterward. Despite these limitations, which are considered fixable through a future firmware update, the new system is seen as narrowing the gap between GoPro and established audio accessory makers that have offered integrated microphone solutions for their own camera lines for longer.
