Town Municipal Corporation Gulshan-e-Iqbal successfully organized an international seminar titled Eco Compute and Smart Cities, bringing together international experts, artificial intelligence professionals, education specialists, policymakers, industrialists, startup founders, and students from various universities. Participants at the event shared perspectives and recommendations on eco friendly urban mobility, smart city planning, technological innovation, and sustainable development strategies relevant to Karachi and other Pakistani cities.
The seminar, organized under the leadership of Town Chairman Dr Fawad, centered on how artificial intelligence and digital ecosystems can be integrated into community planning to build more sustainable and technologically aware urban environments. Dr Muhammad Farooq Shayea, a professor in the Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Department at FAST National University, said he was encouraged to see stakeholders engaging seriously with AI infrastructure, smart city development, and digital transformation at the event, expressing optimism that Karachi would soon see practical implementations of the solutions discussed.
Speakers at the seminar also highlighted the role of institutional collaboration in advancing these initiatives, pointing to the involvement of the International Innovation and Applied Design Program alongside academic and incubation partners including NED University of Engineering and Technology and the National Incubation Center. Attendees described Dr Fawad’s leadership in organizing the event as reflective of a broader, more progressive approach to municipal governance, one aimed at fostering closer ties between local government, academia, and the startup ecosystem to address urban challenges through technology.
The seminar adds to a growing number of forums across Pakistan focused on applying artificial intelligence and digital tools to urban planning and civic infrastructure, as city and town level administrations increasingly look to incorporate smart city concepts into their development agendas. By bringing together voices from academia, industry, and local government under a single platform, the event reflects continued momentum toward embedding technology driven solutions into how Pakistani cities plan for sustainable growth and improved urban mobility going forward.
