Nepal Telecom has extended its 4G mobile network to remote villages located in the mountainous districts of Mugu and Bajura, delivering high speed mobile internet and improved voice services to communities that have historically faced limited digital connectivity. The state owned operator launched services in Soru-6 of Sorukot Rural Municipality in Mugu, along with Neta Bichchhya-1 and Kuwadi-5 in Bajura, as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen telecommunications infrastructure across geographically difficult terrain and support the country’s wider digital inclusion agenda. Local government representatives welcomed the rollout, calling it a meaningful development for residents who will now benefit from better access to digital communication, online services and information resources.
Bringing broadband connectivity to mountainous and remote regions remains one of the more significant challenges facing telecom operators across South Asia. The new tower installed in Neta Bichchhya extends coverage to Kot, Neta, Bama, Baudi, Yauna, Natikhola, Gumba and stretches along the route toward Ranisaina in Bajura. The operator has also expanded coverage to villages surrounding the Kuwadi River confluence and along the route to Tanjakot Rural Municipality-2 in Humla, improving access for both residents and travelers moving through the area. According to Nepal Telecom, this rollout builds on continued efforts to reach communities where difficult terrain has slowed telecommunications development in the past.
Mobile broadband has increasingly become a central tool for digital inclusion, particularly in rural and underserved communities where fixed broadband infrastructure remains difficult to deploy. Access to 4G services allows residents to use digital banking, e-learning platforms, telemedicine, e-commerce and cloud based communication tools, while also improving access to government services delivered through digital channels. For many remote communities, mobile broadband represents the primary gateway to participating in the wider digital economy, helping to reduce geographic barriers to information and essential public services. Local leaders from Soru Rural Municipality also pledged continued coordination to support the long term operation, protection and future expansion of the newly deployed network infrastructure.
