In a recent development, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has selected Shaza Fatima Khawaja as the federal minister for Information Technology & Telecommunication.
The circular issued by the PM’s Office, dated March 12 states,
“The Prime Minister has been pleased to allocate portfolio of Information Technology & Telecommunication to Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Minister of State, with immediate effect”
This move follows the Prime Minister’s recommendation of 19 names for his federal cabinet, which includes 12 National Assembly members and three senators. These recommendations are currently awaiting approval by President Asif Ali Zardari.
Shaza Fatima Khawaja brings with her a wealth of experience, having previously served as the Prime Minister’s aide on youth affairs. Notably, she is the sole woman recommended for a position in the federal cabinet, underscoring the government’s commitment to gender diversity and inclusion.
As the newly appointed federal minister for Information Technology & Telecommunication, Khawaja is poised to play a significant role in shaping the country’s digital landscape and advancing its telecommunications infrastructure. Her appointment marks a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to bolster the IT sector and promote technological innovation across the nation.
