Apple has started rolling out the first beta of iOS 26.3, arriving only days after the public release of iOS 26.2. The latest beta introduces a set of notable updates aimed at improving platform flexibility and user choice, with a particular focus on cross platform data movement, wearable notification access, and refinements to system customization.
One of the most significant additions in iOS 26.3 beta is a native tool that allows users to move data directly from an iPhone to an Android device. This marks the first time Apple has included a built in solution within iOS for transferring content to a competing mobile platform. The tool enables the movement of apps, photos, contacts, messages, and other essential data without the need for third party applications. To initiate the process, users must ensure both the iPhone and the Android device are connected to the same wireless network. Once connected, the transfer can be started directly from system settings, offering a more streamlined experience compared to earlier workarounds that relied on external software. By embedding this capability directly into iOS, Apple appears to be addressing long standing user concerns around switching platforms, reducing friction for those considering a move away from iPhone while maintaining control over their personal data.
Another key change introduced in iOS 26.3 beta is Notification Forwarding, a feature designed to extend iPhone notifications to third party wearable devices. This functionality is currently limited to users within the European Union and allows compatible non Apple wearables to receive alerts from an iPhone. Users can activate the feature by opening Settings, navigating to Notifications, and selecting Notification Forwarding. From there, they can choose which applications are permitted to send notifications to the connected wearable. The feature supports only one wearable at a time, meaning that if an Apple Watch is already paired with the iPhone, notification forwarding to a third party device will not be available. Apple has introduced this change in response to requirements under the European Union Digital Markets Act, which calls for broader access to core iOS features for third party hardware and services. This update reflects growing regulatory pressure on platform providers to enable greater interoperability and user choice across ecosystems.
Alongside these functional updates, iOS 26.3 beta also brings changes to the Weather wallpaper experience. The Weather wallpaper now appears in its own dedicated section within the Lock Screen customization interface, making it easier for users to locate, manage, and apply. This adjustment improves usability for those who prefer dynamic visual elements tied to real time conditions, and it aligns with Apples ongoing efforts to refine personalization features introduced in recent iOS versions. While the Weather wallpaper itself remains visually consistent with previous releases, the improved organization within customization settings simplifies access and enhances overall navigation. Apple is expected to continue refining these features throughout the beta testing period, with the final version of iOS 26.3 anticipated to be released publicly in January.
