The Lahore Science Mela 2025 concluded on a vibrant note, attracting thousands of visitors and igniting widespread enthusiasm for science and technology among students and families. Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) played a significant role in the event, displaying its diverse contributions to nuclear science, agriculture, minerals, and health sectors. Dr. Rashid Mahmood, Spokesperson of PAEC, highlighted the overwhelming public participation, emphasizing the importance of organizing similar science festivals in other major cities, particularly Islamabad. He stated that such interactive events nurture scientific curiosity among young minds, foster a deeper appreciation for research, and sustain public engagement with scientific discovery.
Throughout the two-day event, PAEC’s pavilion emerged as one of the main attractions. Visitors explored detailed exhibits showcasing radiopharmaceutical kits for cancer diagnosis, developed by the Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology (PINSTECH), and a working model of a nuclear power plant. The display also featured indigenously developed vaccines and innovations in agriculture and minerals, reflecting the Commission’s efforts toward advancing self-reliance in critical technological areas. The engaging setup offered visitors a hands-on experience with nuclear applications in everyday life, drawing particular interest from students and educators alike.
A highlight of the mela was the participation of the Champions of the International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO) 2025, trained and mentored by the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), PAEC’s premier engineering university. Their presence inspired attendees, especially students, by demonstrating how young Pakistanis are making their mark in global science competitions. PAEC’s continuous involvement in such initiatives underscores its commitment to promoting STEM education and fostering a new generation of scientific thinkers who can contribute to national progress.
Organized by the Khwarizmi Science Society (KSS), Lahore Science Mela has become a flagship event in Pakistan’s science communication landscape. This year’s edition, hosted at Crescent Model Higher Secondary School, welcomed over 100,000 visitors. The festival featured a rich mix of exhibitions and activities, including a planetarium, laser demonstrations, an interactive ‘Surpriseum,’ workshops, games, and auditorium talks. The event’s diverse lineup of science and technology exhibitors created an engaging environment that blended education with entertainment, sparking renewed public interest in scientific exploration. PAEC’s active participation once again highlighted its role as a driving force behind science promotion in Pakistan, encouraging the expansion of such platforms across the country to inspire future innovators.
