The Academic Council of Rawalpindi Women University has approved the in-principle integration of artificial intelligence across all academic programmes, alongside the launch of a new BS Software Engineering degree aimed at aligning the university’s offerings with global technological standards. The decisions were made during the fourth meeting of the Academic Council, chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Tayyaba Zarif, where members reviewed and endorsed a series of academic, research and administrative reforms.
As part of the university’s broader push toward emerging technologies, the council evaluated a proposal to establish a dedicated Faculty of Computing aimed at expanding education across modern computing disciplines. During the same session, the council approved revised curricula across multiple departments, developed in line with Higher Education Commission guidelines and international academic benchmarks, while also reviewing and approving updated vision and mission statements for various academic departments to reflect the university’s revised strategic direction.
Addressing the meeting, Vice Chancellor Tayyaba Zarif reaffirmed the university’s commitment to academic quality, research innovation and institutional development, describing the goal as building a strong academic model aligned with national priorities while improving the university’s international standing. She called for a coordinated approach to ensure the approved reforms are implemented effectively across departments. To support this, the council sanctioned faculty development and capacity building programmes intended to modernize teaching practices, alongside a review of existing administrative and academic frameworks aimed at improving overall operational efficiency.
The council also addressed student welfare and inclusivity, approving a phased upgrade of campus infrastructure to better accommodate students with disabilities. Additionally, the council approved structured internal internship opportunities within the university, giving graduates practical workplace experience before they enter the professional job market. Council members also congratulated the Vice Chancellor on assuming office, and the meeting concluded with a shared commitment to the timely implementation of all approved policies across the university’s academic and administrative structure.
