Pakistan’s Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication is exploring alternatives to the current cash reward system for IT exports. The move comes as industry stakeholders weigh in on potential improvements.
The first meeting of the Functional Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication, chaired by Minister of State Shaza Fatima Khawaja, addressed the existing cash reward scheme. P@SHA Secretary General Nadeem Malik presented a briefing on the current program’s functionalities.
Discussions focused on transitioning to a different incentive structure for IT exporters. A dedicated committee, comprising Member IT Syed Junaid Imam, P@SHA’s Nadeem Malik, and a representative from the State Bank of Pakistan, has been formed to explore these alternatives.
The details of the proposed new scheme and the reasons behind potentially phasing out cash rewards remain undisclosed. However, this development suggests the government is seeking to optimize its export incentive strategy for the IT sector.
