With the widespread growth and elongated lockdown restriction in the country, the e-commerce industry in Pakistan has never been of greater importance. As social distancing is expected to grow, e-commerce companies have now started to promote measures that ensure safe online shopping.

Various businesses are currently struggling and investors are worried looking at the current state of the Pakistan Stock Exchange. The world is opting for e-commerce alternatives to ensure their basic needs are met. With a growth on online shopping, Daraz have taken steps to ensure customers have access to basic commodities such as flour, lentils, soaps, sanitizers, sugar, tea, surface cleaners, hand washes. The platform has ensured minimal price hikes to ensure no marketplace sellers take unfair advantage of the pandemic.

Online based companies are ensuring that they take measures recommended by the World Health Organization. One of the other priorities of e-commerce stores is to ensure the health and well-being of its entire community ( delivery agents, customers, sellers and users around Pakistan) are taken care of. At Daraz’ warehouses, hubs and offices, colleagues have been told to refrain from physical contact, maintain as much distance as possible and wash hands frequently and thoroughly. Furthermore, it is imperative to maintain and check the temperature of all employees at the warehouse.

Ahmed Tanveer, COO Daraz Pakistan, said that: “It is our primary responsibility right now to ensure that our employees, delivery agents and customers remain safe. We anticipate an uptick in demand and have taken steps to ensure that we are equipped to serve the needs of our customers. At the same time, it is our social responsibility to help prevent the spread of the virus and therefore, the strictest standards of hygiene are being enforced at our facilities”. DEX Heroes  is a  delivery agent who  has been instructed to wear masks and gloves at all times when making any delivery and to take precautionary measures before reaching the customer’s location.
