The National Telecommunications and Information Technology Security Board (NTISB), operating under the Cabinet Division, successfully conducted a three-day boot camp on ISO/IEC 17025, an internationally recognized standard for testing and calibration laboratories. The event, held from March 20 to 22, 2025, brought together key officials from multiple organizations, including the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT), the Ministry of Defence (MoD), the Cabinet Division, National Computer Emergency Response Team (National CERT), the Department of Communication Security, the Strategic Plans Division (SPD), and IT and crypto security evaluation laboratories.

The primary objective of the boot camp was to provide in-depth training on implementing and auditing ISO/IEC 17025 standards, particularly in IT and cryptographic security testing laboratories. The standard is instrumental in ensuring the competence and reliability of testing and calibration laboratories, fostering greater collaboration between institutions, and enhancing the credibility and acceptance of test results both nationally and internationally. By aligning with ISO/IEC 17025, organizations can streamline their security testing processes and maintain compliance with global best practices.

The boot camp featured comprehensive sessions on various aspects of the standard, including laboratory accreditation, quality management systems, technical competence, and the assessment of measurement uncertainties. Participants were given hands-on training and practical insights into how to effectively integrate these standards within their respective organizations.

Leading the boot camp was Mr. Muhammad Naeem Shahzad, a highly regarded Lead Consultant and Corporate Trainer from the PIQC Institute of Quality. Known for his expertise in quality assurance and security compliance, Mr. Shahzad delivered the training with a blend of professionalism and interactivity, ensuring that participants could grasp complex concepts with ease. His ability to simplify technical jargon and provide real-world applications of ISO/IEC 17025 standards significantly enhanced the learning experience for attendees.

The initiative highlights NTISB’s commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s cybersecurity and IT security landscape by ensuring that testing and calibration laboratories operate at the highest international standards. By equipping professionals with the knowledge and skills required to implement ISO/IEC 17025, the NTISB aims to enhance the overall security framework of critical IT infrastructure in the country.

Standardized testing and evaluation play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity and reliability of IT security systems, especially in an era where cyber threats are becoming increasingly sophisticated. With government entities and security-focused organizations participating in this initiative, the boot camp serves as a stepping stone toward bolstering Pakistan’s capabilities in IT and cryptographic security evaluation.

As cybersecurity concerns continue to evolve, initiatives like this underscore the importance of structured training programs to ensure that national security agencies and related institutions remain at the forefront of global best practices. The NTISB’s effort in hosting such specialized training further cements its role as a pivotal player in Pakistan’s cybersecurity ecosystem.

By fostering collaboration across key governmental and security-focused organizations, the boot camp is expected to have a lasting impact on the standardization and enhancement of testing procedures within IT and crypto security domains. The insights gained from the training will not only improve compliance with international standards but also contribute to strengthening the overall security and resilience of Pakistan’s critical IT infrastructure.
