Lahore Arts Council, known as Alhamra, and University of Engineering and Technology’s Al-Khwarizmi Institute of Computer Science have joined hands to strengthen collaboration between technology, culture, literature and the arts, opening new avenues for creativity and cultural expression in the digital age. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed at a ceremony by Executive Director Lahore Arts Council Muhammad Nawaz Gondal and Head of Al-Khwarizmi Institute of Computer Science at UET, Dr Shehzad Asif, on behalf of their respective institutions.
The agreement establishes a framework for collaboration across academic, artistic, cultural and technological fields, including knowledge sharing, joint activities, collaborative projects and youth oriented initiatives. Speaking on the occasion, Muhammad Nawaz Gondal said the partnership with a leading academic and technological institution like UET was an important step toward connecting the cultural sector with the rapidly evolving digital landscape. He said the integration of technology with culture, literature and the arts could create new avenues for creative expression and provide young people with opportunities to explore innovative ideas beyond conventional boundaries.
Dr Shehzad Asif said the collaboration would serve as a bridge between technological advancement and creative expression, promoting innovation and new ways of thinking across both fields. He said modern computer science offered valuable opportunities for the cultural and artistic sectors, while engagement with the arts could broaden perspectives on creativity, human expression and cultural identity, suggesting the partnership was designed to benefit both institutions through cross disciplinary exchange rather than a one directional transfer of expertise.
Under the terms of the agreement, both institutions will collaborate through expertise and knowledge sharing, joint programmes, academic and artistic initiatives, and projects specifically exploring the intersection of technology and creativity. Deputy Director Administration Syed Umair Hassan, Deputy Director Programs Waseem Akram, Audit and Accounts Officer Muhammad Mohib Shamsi, and other officers and relevant officials attended the signing ceremony, marking the formal start of a partnership expected to shape future initiatives bridging Pakistan’s cultural and technology sectors in the years ahead.
