Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that the establishment of the Provincial Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Center and the Artificial Intelligence Hub would significantly strengthen the province’s ability to anticipate threats, improve coordination among security agencies and ensure timely response to emerging challenges. Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the center and the e-launch of the AI Hub Punjab in Lahore, she said Punjab had become the first province in Pakistan to establish an artificial intelligence hub of this kind.
The chief minister said the concept of artificial intelligence had been transformed into a practical reality within a few months, describing the establishment of the AI Hub in record time as a major achievement for the province. She appreciated the cooperation of the Pakistan Army and thanked Lahore Corps Commander Lieutenant General Fayyaz Hussain Shah for his support, while also congratulating Home Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique, Home Secretary Ahmad Javed Qazi and other officers involved in establishing the hub in a short period. She said police, Special Branch and other law enforcement agencies also deserved recognition for working together to protect citizens and maintain law and order.
According to the chief minister, the AI enabled system would help issue digital alerts to district coordination committees, enabling authorities to identify and address potential problems before they develop into larger incidents. She cited Punjab’s recent response to challenges caused by heavy rains as an example of the province’s improved capacity to act quickly, noting that despite shortcomings in sewerage and drainage infrastructure, rainwater was now being drained more promptly, though she acknowledged that full rehabilitation of those systems across the province would require substantial resources going forward.
The chief minister said the new intelligence fusion center would help Punjab reduce response time against emerging security threats, describing the ability to control an incident before it occurs as the real measure of success. She noted that threats also emerge from border regions and neighbouring provinces, making intelligence coordination and timely threat assessment increasingly important for the province’s overall security posture. She added that joint check posts in vulnerable areas had been strengthened with bulletproof, thermal and night vision cameras, and that the broader security situation in riverine areas had also improved significantly in recent months.
Maryam Nawaz said the government’s ultimate objective was to build a safer, technologically enabled and well governed Punjab, adding that body cameras had also been provided to police personnel to improve accountability and monitor conduct during duty. She said the administration continues to pursue proactive, technology supported approaches to law enforcement and public safety, positioning the new AI Hub and intelligence center as central components of that broader strategy going forward.
