Square Enix has officially confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the third and final installment in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, will launch on April 8, 2027. The release date was announced during the latest PlayStation State of Play presentation alongside a brand new trailer, giving fans a much clearer timeline after the game was initially revealed during Summer Game Fest with a Spring 2027 release window. The title had also appeared during Gamescom Opening Night Live with a short trailer that left many fans expecting more details, particularly regarding its launch date. The latest showcase addressed those expectations by confirming that the game will arrive just days after the beginning of Spring 2027, bringing Cloud’s story to its conclusion in the remake trilogy.

The newly released State of Play trailer shifted its attention from the previous Gamescom presentation by highlighting the game’s central characters and their combat abilities rather than focusing primarily on the Weapons, the powerful beings summoned by the Planet during times of crisis. The footage provided a closer look at the battle system, including what appeared to be a triple Synergy Ability involving Cloud, Tifa, and Barret. Alongside the gameplay reveal, Square Enix confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch on April 8, 2027. The release date closely aligns with the history of the remake series, as Final Fantasy VII Remake originally debuted on PlayStation 4 on April 10, 2020. The timing adds a symbolic connection between the beginning of Cloud’s remake journey and the arrival of its concluding chapter seven years later.

Following the release date announcement, Square Enix presented an extended gameplay demonstration to conclude the PlayStation State of Play broadcast. The showcase revealed several new gameplay features while expanding on mechanics introduced in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. One of the biggest additions is the Highwind airship, allowing seamless exploration across the game world. Ground exploration has also been enhanced through the Chocobo Piko, which features multiple traversal abilities and supports a variety of side activities beyond combat. Players will be able to participate in optional activities such as photographing cats in Wutai, while quest progression has also been redesigned to allow different party members to take the lead. This approach gives players greater flexibility and creates opportunities for different gameplay experiences depending on the selected character.

Combat has also received significant updates through the introduction of the FITS system, which allows players to assign each party member a specialized role such as Warrior, Black Mage, Knight, or Summoner. Each role provides access to unique FITS specific abilities, expanding the strategic options already established in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The showcase also demonstrated a new quality of life feature that notifies players whenever a Synergy Ability becomes available during battle, making it easier to coordinate attacks between party members. At the end of the presentation, director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that additional content is already planned beyond the game’s release. Square Enix revealed that two downloadable story expansions are in development, with one focusing on Sephiroth and another centered on Vincent and the Turks. These announcements further expand the planned content for Final Fantasy VII Revelation as it prepares to complete one of Square Enix’s most ambitious remake projects on April 8, 2027.
