PTA has clarified that it is not responsible for the identification of explosive materials concealed within electronic devices, including pagers.
PTA emphasized that its role is primarily focused on regulating telecommunication devices and ensuring they comply with international standards. The authority’s responsibilities include verifying mobile device IMEIs and type-approving various wireless and fixed telecommunication devices.
PTA further explained that the identification of explosive materials falls outside its jurisdiction as it is not directly related to telecommunications. The authority noted that such materials can be concealed in various electronic devices, not just those connected to telecommunication networks.
To address cybersecurity concerns, the Federal Government has established the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) to handle digital forensics and system security. The CERT is tasked with investigating cyber incidents and taking necessary measures to mitigate risks.
PTA has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities.
