In a major crackdown on illegal imports, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) apprehended two smugglers at Islamabad International Airport. Babar Ayub and Muhammad Salman, arriving from Dubai, raised red flags for FIA officials who upon inspection discovered a hidden cache of mobile phones.
The seized items included 50 high-end phones, 100 data cables, and three Apple MacBooks, cleverly disguised within packets of dates. The total value of the smuggled goods runs into millions of rupees.
This operation follows a similar success by Pakistan Customs in Karachi, where smuggled phones were found concealed in passengers’ clothing. Both incidents highlight the agency’s vigilance in combating the black market for non-approved mobile devices.
The arrested individuals, Ayub and Salman, have been handed over to customs authorities for further investigation and legal action.
