WhatsApp users in Pakistan can now experience the Meta AI chatbot, a feature that doesn’t require a separate app download. This server-side update is accessible through the new search bar labeled “Ask Meta AI or Search” at the top of the screen. Alternatively, users can tap the new Meta AI icon above the “New Chat” button.

Similar to ChatGPT, Meta AI is a conversational AI chatbot powered by Meta’s Llama 2 open-source AI model. It can answer user prompts and offers pre-populated options like “Help set fitness goals” or “Solo travel benefits.” Users can also type their own questions and even use emojis for a more natural interaction.

However, Meta AI goes a step beyond conversation. It can generate AI images in less than a minute, though these are limited in resolution and clearly labeled as AI-made. These images can be downloaded and shared like any other WhatsApp media. The functionality extends to group chats as well.

Desktop users might encounter a slight difference in terminology – “AI Character” instead of “Meta AI.” However, it’s the same service under a different name, and the chat history remains synced across all devices.

The arrival of the Meta AI chatbot in Pakistan signifies a new era for WhatsApp users, offering them a powerful tool for communication, information retrieval, and even creative image generation.
