In a joint operation, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Zonal Office in Lahore teamed up with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Circle to successfully conduct a raid on a mobile phone company franchisee in the city. The franchisee was discovered to be engaged in the illicit issuance of SIM cards.

The raid, a strategic move in PTA’s continuous campaign against unauthorized SIM issuance, resulted in the confiscation of 13 Biometric Verification System (BVS) devices and a laptop, all of which were seized as crucial pieces of evidence. Furthermore, the FIA team apprehended an individual on the premises, who is currently under investigation.

The collaborative effort stems from a prior complaint filed by PTA with the FIA, prompted by intelligence on the unlawful issuance of SIM cards within the sales channel. As the FIA delves deeper into the matter, the raid underscores the commitment of both agencies to combat the illicit SIM card trade.

This operation is part of PTA’s broader initiatives aimed at eradicating the persistent problem of illegal SIM card issuance, ensuring the integrity of the country’s telecommunications network.
