Tech Valley Pakistan, in partnership with Google for Education, delivered an executive artificial intelligence training programme for the 67th Senior Management Course at WAPDA Staff College in Islamabad, engaging 30 senior officers over a two day session. The training was aimed primarily at officers in BPS 19 to 20, a senior tier of the civil bureaucracy, reflecting a broader effort to bring AI literacy into the upper ranks of Pakistan’s public sector institutions rather than limiting such programmes to junior staff or technical departments alone.
The session combined general awareness with hands on learning, designed to help participants integrate artificial intelligence tools into their day to day administrative work. Officers explored practical applications ranging from drafting official correspondence and summarizing lengthy reports to building dashboards and identifying potential AI use cases within their own departments. This practical, task oriented format distinguishes the programme from purely theoretical briefings on emerging technology, instead focusing on tools and workflows that senior officers could apply directly within their existing institutional responsibilities.
According to Tech Valley, several participants shared that they had previously felt behind their younger colleagues when it came to using AI tools, a sentiment that reportedly shifted toward greater confidence by the end of the training. The organizers framed this shift as significant given the seniority of the officers involved, arguing that when individuals responsible for leading institutions begin to understand and adopt emerging technologies, the resulting impact extends beyond individual skill development to influence how entire departments approach technology adoption going forward.
The WAPDA Staff College training adds to a series of AI and digital skills initiatives that Tech Valley has been involved in across Pakistan’s public and private sectors in partnership with Google for Education, including earlier programmes focused on AI adoption in schools and broader digital literacy efforts. WAPDA, as one of Pakistan’s largest public sector organizations responsible for water and power infrastructure, represents a significant institutional target for such training given the scale of its operations and its ongoing role in national infrastructure planning and management.
