Speculation around Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 lineup has intensified following the discovery of code references within the iOS 27 beta 5 software that point toward six new models entering production. According to reporting from Macworld, the code contains internal identifiers corresponding to what are believed to be the iPhone Air 2, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, the base iPhone 18, an iPhone Ultra, and an iPhone 18e, though Apple itself has made no official confirmation regarding any of these devices, their names, or their specifications.
Industry analysts and frequent Apple leakers, including Mark Gurman and Ming Chi Kuo, have suggested that Apple may split its iPhone 18 announcements across two separate launch events rather than releasing the full lineup simultaneously in September as has been customary in recent years. Under this scenario, the higher end models, namely the iPhone 18 Pro, the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and what is expected to be Apple’s first foldable device, would launch in September 2026 following the company’s typical autumn release pattern. The base iPhone 18, the more affordable iPhone 18e, and the iPhone Air 2 would instead be held back for a separate spring 2027 launch event, a departure from Apple’s historical approach of releasing its entire annual lineup within the same window.
Reports suggest the foldable device, which some sources believe may ultimately be branded as the iPhone Ultra, could feature a design described as similar in proportions to a smaller tablet when unfolded, with a main display measuring approximately 7.8 inches and an outer display of around 5.5 inches. Leaked computer aided design files and physical dummy units obtained by various sources have reportedly reinforced this general shape and size, though colour options are expected to remain relatively conservative, with dark grey, white or silver, and possibly an indigo option under consideration rather than a wider palette.
On the performance side, all iPhone 18 models are expected to run on Apple’s upcoming A20 chip, manufactured using a smaller two nanometre process that could deliver meaningful improvements in both processing speed and power efficiency compared to the current generation. The base iPhone 18 model is rumoured to receive a memory upgrade to twelve gigabytes of RAM, bringing it in line with the Pro models and potentially enabling more artificial intelligence processing to occur directly on the device rather than relying on cloud based computation. Camera upgrades are also anticipated across the lineup, with Pro models expected to introduce variable aperture technology on the main camera, while all models, including the standard iPhone 18, may see selfie camera resolution increase from eighteen megapixels to twenty four megapixels.
Pricing for the new lineup remains speculative at this stage, though industry watchers widely expect increases across the board given broader cost pressures affecting memory chip supply throughout the industry this year. Some estimates suggest standard price increases in the range of fifty dollars per model, while the foldable device, given its more complex engineering and materials, could carry a starting price estimated between 2,300 and 2,500 dollars depending on storage configuration. On the software side, the new devices are expected to ship with iOS 27, which industry sources suggest will introduce a significantly reworked version of Siri built in partnership with Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence technology, though run on Apple’s own servers in an effort to maintain the company’s existing data privacy standards. As with all pre launch reporting of this nature, none of these details have been confirmed by Apple, and specifications, pricing and release timing remain subject to change until the company makes an official announcement.
