Air Link Communication Limited has been added to the MSCI Pakistan Small Cap Index, while Biafo Industries Limited has been removed as part of the latest semi annual review of MSCI frontier market indexes. The changes were announced by MSCI on August 12, 2026, and will become effective at the close of trading on August 31, 2026. Pakistan recorded one addition and one deletion in the review, leaving its overall representation in the MSCI Frontier Markets Small Cap Index broadly unchanged. The latest adjustment places Air Link among the Pakistani companies included in the benchmark followed by investors tracking frontier market equities.
The inclusion of Air Link Communication represents a notable development for the company, which operates in Pakistan’s technology and communications equipment sector. Air Link is involved in the distribution, retail and manufacturing of consumer electronics and mobile devices, giving it exposure to Pakistan’s expanding technology market. Its addition to the MSCI Pakistan Small Cap Index means the company will become part of a benchmark monitored by international investors, asset managers and funds with exposure to frontier markets. Index changes can influence investor attention and trading activity because passive funds and other investment vehicles that track relevant benchmarks may adjust their portfolios according to constituent changes. However, the impact on foreign portfolio investment is expected to depend on the size of Pakistan’s weighting and the assets tracking the specific MSCI index.
Biafo Industries Limited, meanwhile, has been removed from the MSCI Pakistan Small Cap Index. Biafo is listed on Pakistan Stock Exchange and operates as a manufacturer and supplier serving sectors including mining and related industrial activities. Its deletion means the company will no longer form part of the relevant MSCI small cap benchmark following the effective date. The change does not mean that Biafo has been removed from Pakistan Stock Exchange or that its shares will stop trading. Instead, it represents a change in its status within the MSCI index structure, which is reviewed periodically based on the methodology and eligibility requirements applied by the index provider. For investors monitoring benchmark linked flows, the deletion is relevant because funds following the index may reassess their holdings around the implementation date.
Pakistan’s changes form part of a broader reshuffle involving MSCI Frontier Markets Small Cap Indexes across 12 countries. Sri Lanka recorded six additions and two deletions, while Vietnam registered six additions and three deletions. Tunisia recorded one addition against five deletions, whereas Mauritius had three deletions without any additions. Other markets including Oman, Morocco, Ivory Coast, Slovenia, Romania, Burkina Faso and Jordan also recorded changes during the review. Pakistan did not feature among the constituent changes for the standard MSCI Frontier Markets Index in this cycle, meaning the country’s latest adjustment is limited to the small cap segment. The Air Link addition and Biafo deletion will both take effect at the close of trading on August 31, after which investors and market participants will be able to assess the impact on trading patterns and foreign portfolio flows.
