PTA Releases Telecom Indicators of up to July 2018

Pakistan continues to adapt to the latest technologies and embracing cellular services such as 3G and 4G. The numbers keep getting better and better and there is an ever growing competition within the service providers to reach out to the market. PTA recently updated their Telecom Indicator number for 2018 that show the overall progress of the industry in terms of teledensity and penetration in terms of the total number of cellular services provider, 3G/4G subscribers, basic telephony subscribers and broadband subscribers.

Cellular Services Subscribers

The results show that overall as of July 2018, the industry has seen to 150.55 million annual cellular services subscribers with a teledensity of 72.83%. The telecom service that takes the lead in getting most people on to their platform is Jazz, followed by Ufone, Zong, Telenor, and Warid.

The number of Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS) has seen an increase of up to 57.34 million with Zong in the lead. Furthermore there also has been a significant increase in Mobile Broadband and 3G/4G LTE subscribers’ with respects to technology. However, there has been a significant drop in the annual local loop subscribers to 0.21 million in 2017-18 from a 3.7 million in 2012-13.

The 3G/4G service according to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has seen 57 million subscribers up till July 2018 with a penetration rate of 27.73%. Whereas there have only been 3 million basic telephony subscribers with a teledensity of 1.30% and 60 million broadband services subscribers with a penetration rate of 28.81%.

Consumer Complaints

The consumer complaints that PTA has received range to approximately a round figure of 2800 with almost 100% of the complaints that were redressed. The highest number of the complaints received has been for the Cellular Mobile Operator Jazz followed by Telenor, Zong and Ufone according to the PTA indicators for July 2018.

CMO Market Share

In terms of who dominates the market in terms of penetration, we see that Jazz continues to have the largest share with 36.93%, followed by Telenor at 28.85%, Zong 20.60% and Ufone at 13.62%.

The indicators see a significant increase in the subscribers of 4G and 3G services and the overall teledensity of the country. The entire list of indicators is available on the official PTA website.
