The Punjab Education Department has decided to completely eliminate manual college admissions across the province starting in 2027, shifting the entire admission process to an online system as part of the government’s broader paperless policy. Director Public Instruction Colleges Punjab Dr. Ansar Azhar said the move is intended to make the admission process more convenient and efficient for both students and their families, reducing the administrative burden associated with the province’s traditional paper based system.
Under the new system, colleges will no longer issue printed prospectuses or admission forms, with students instead required to complete their admission applications and related procedures entirely through the province’s designated online system. The payment of college fees has already been shifted online, marking the first phase of the digitization effort, while the remaining components of the admission process, including access to prospectuses, application submissions and document verification, are set to be digitized starting from the next academic year. This phased approach mirrors the rollout of Punjab’s existing Online College Admission System, which has expanded from an initial 24 colleges to more than 200 institutions across the province over the past several years for Intermediate level admissions.
Dr. Ansar Azhar advised students and parents to make use of the online system rather than visiting colleges in person and waiting in long queues to complete routine admission related tasks. Officials have tied the initiative to the Punjab government’s environment friendly and paperless approach to education administration, with the broader goal of reducing paper consumption and administrative delays across the province’s public college network. Once complete, the transition will make college admissions in Punjab fully digital, covering everything from initial applications and prospectus access to admission procedures and fee payments.
The department expects the shift toward a fully online admission system to reduce paperwork significantly, improve overall efficiency and provide students with easier and more convenient access to college admission services regardless of their location within the province. The initiative reflects a continuation of Punjab’s ongoing efforts to digitize various aspects of its education sector, following similar moves in previous years to shift components of the admission and fee payment process online, and represents one of several parallel efforts by the Punjab Education Department to modernize administrative processes across public colleges through greater use of digital infrastructure.
