The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Huawei Pakistan have signed a memorandum of understanding to bridge the digital divide and close the gender gap by empowering women via digital technologies in Punjab, KPY, and Sindh, starting with Punjab, KPY, and Sindh.

Dr. Sania Nishter, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection, Dr. Muhammad Sohail Rajput, PTA Chairman Maj Gen® Amir Azeem Bajwa, CEO Jazz Mr. Aamir Ibrahim, CEO Ufone Mr. Hatem Bamatraf, CEO Telenor Pakistan Mr. Irfan Wahab Khan, Deputy CEO Huawei Pakistan Mr. Ahmed Bilal Masud and Mr. Wu Han, as well as others.

Dr. Sania Nishter and PTA praised Huawei’s and all of the operators’ efforts to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Women may use the Internet and increase their digital abilities to create new enterprises, sell goods to new markets, obtain market-competitive professions, and access education, health, and financial services while engaging actively in public life and increasing information sharing. The gender disparity in ICT use in Pakistan has not narrowed in recent years, and this MoU signing hopes to change that.

Huawei intends to assist PTA in launching projects aimed at closing the digital gender gap through awareness campaigns and the acquisition of digital skills by women. Huawei intends to offer sections of training in this area in 2022, with around 500 women participating. In partnership with other organizations, the firm also hopes to assist PTA in o organizing initiatives, training, and events to promote Gender Inclusion in ICTs. Increased attention will open the path for women’s participation in ICT academies, CSR initiatives, and the provision of low-cost tools, phones, and gadgets for women to aid in learning.

In today’s ever-expanding technological environment, establishing the notion of inclusion is critical in order to bring about dramatic changes in all sectors through technical developments.

This aligns with Huawei’s aim of bringing digital to every person, home, and business in order to create a fully connected, intelligent world. To that end, the company is laser-focused on ensuring ubiquitous connectivity and equal network access to lay the groundwork for the intelligent world, which will lead to the provision of the ultimate computing power in order to deliver ubiquitous cloud and intelligence and build powerful digital platforms to assist all industries and organizations in becoming more agile, efficient, and dynamic. This also includes reimagining user experience via the application of Artificial Intelligence, resulting in more tailored and intelligent experiences for customers across all contexts, including home, travel, business, entertainment, and fitness and health.

More activities are likely to emerge as a result of its relationship with PTA, ensuring a more digital Pakistan.
