A leadership delegation from VEON and JazzWorld, led by Kaan Terzioglu, CEO of VEON Group, and Aamir Ibrahim, CEO of JazzWorld, met with Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, to discuss Pakistan’s ongoing digital transformation efforts, the expansion of 5G services, sustainability within the telecom sector, and broader opportunities to accelerate digital adoption across the country.
The delegation accompanying the two chief executives included Kazim Mujtaba, President of Jazz GSM, Syed Zaheer Mehdi, Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer at JazzWorld, and Mudassar Hussain, Head of Public Policy and Regulatory Affairs. During the meeting, the delegation acknowledged the government’s continued efforts to advance digital governance and connectivity, pointing specifically to the recent spectrum auction as a development that has laid a stronger foundation for further investment and 5G rollout across the country. The conversation also covered opportunities to shape a policy environment that supports sustainable investment, innovation, service quality, and wider access to digital services for consumers across Pakistan. Both companies used the meeting to reiterate their long term commitment to the Pakistani market, with the executives framing the country’s young and increasingly digital population as a key factor behind their continued investment plans.
Speaking about the meeting, Kaan Terzioglu described Pakistan as one of VEON’s most important markets, noting that a predictable and investment friendly policy environment could unlock greater private investment and innovation, allowing JazzWorld to contribute at a larger scale to the country’s digital economy. Aamir Ibrahim added that JazzWorld appreciated the Ministry’s continued engagement with the industry, stating that while the company works on deploying 5G and expanding its network, its focus remains on delivering better quality of service and a stronger customer experience for its subscribers. The leadership also discussed the broader task of building out the digital ecosystem, expanding connectivity across underserved areas, and enabling greater adoption of digital technologies among both consumers and businesses. Particular attention was given to ensuring that ongoing investment in 4G and 5G infrastructure translates into tangible improvements in network quality rather than remaining a purely infrastructural upgrade with limited impact on everyday users.
The meeting concluded with both VEON and JazzWorld reaffirming their intent to continue working closely with the government and other industry stakeholders to support Pakistan’s digital transformation agenda. The companies indicated that continued investment in connectivity and technology, paired with sustained collaboration between government and industry, would be necessary to maintain momentum on quality of service improvements and inclusive digital growth across the country. While the meeting did not produce any specific new policy commitments or investment figures, it signaled continued high level engagement between one of Pakistan’s largest telecom operators and the ministry overseeing the sector, at a time when 5G deployment and spectrum related decisions remain central topics in the country’s telecom policy discussions.
