The Ministry of Communications and Technology has confirmed the return of Nokia to Syria, marking the company’s re-entry into the market after years of absence. The announcement was made during the Amplify Syria event at the Four Seasons Hotel in Damascus, which brought together government officials, industry experts, and international representatives. Minister of Communications Abdul Salam Haikal described the step as vital for advancing Syria’s technological development, emphasizing that the partnership will support the country’s broader goals of rebuilding communication infrastructure, enabling digital services, and boosting the national economy.

Haikal noted that the agreement with Nokia is expected to bring multiple benefits to the Syrian ICT landscape. These include the establishment of modern communication networks, the creation of quality job opportunities for Syrian technicians, and the enhancement of infrastructure to better meet the demands of citizens. He underlined that such efforts would not only improve access to reliable digital services but also provide long-term contributions to Syria’s economic recovery through strategic projects. Nokia’s expertise, accumulated through operations in over 100 countries, will serve as a foundation for supporting local initiatives and building sustainable telecom services in the region.

Miko Lavanti, Nokia’s Head for the Middle East and Africa in the cellular networks sector, expressed optimism about the company’s renewed presence in Syria. He highlighted the “promising potential” of the Syrian market and confirmed Nokia’s commitment to supporting flagship projects initiated by the ministry, including “Silk Link” and “Barq Net.” Lavanti added that Nokia will collaborate with local partners to strengthen the telecommunications sector and introduce advanced solutions that align with international standards. He stated that the reopening of Nokia’s Damascus office reflects the company’s long-term vision of contributing to the country’s digital transformation journey.

The Amplify Syria event also featured a series of technical sessions aimed at showcasing global trends and Nokia’s technological offerings. Experts discussed the role of fifth-generation technology in expanding fixed wireless access, the importance of optimizing frequency spectrum, the adoption of cloud computing solutions, and the need for robust communication security frameworks. Nokia also presented its portfolio of digital transformation tools designed to support governments and enterprises in adapting to modern requirements. The gathering drew participation from several ministers, diplomatic representatives, and leaders from the telecommunications and ICT sectors, signaling broad recognition of the importance of Nokia’s return.

By resuming operations in Syria and aligning with national development priorities, Nokia has placed itself at the center of the country’s digital rebuilding efforts. The partnership between the Ministry of Communications and Technology and Nokia underscores the role of international collaboration in supporting infrastructure growth and digital adoption, while also creating opportunities for local talent to contribute to the next phase of Syria’s technological progress.
