The University of Sargodha (UoS) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Zaozhuang School of Technology (ZST) in China to establish a collaborative battery technology research centre in Pakistan. The initiative, focused on lithium battery technologies, marks a significant academic and scientific collaboration between the two institutions, aimed at contributing to innovation in renewable energy storage and electric mobility solutions.
The research centre will be based at the University of Sargodha, serving as a dedicated space for joint efforts in battery-related studies and practical applications. This includes work on lithium battery advancements for electric vehicles as well as storage systems for alternative energy sources. Both UoS and ZST have identified battery innovation as a priority area, given its role in supporting cleaner energy systems and emerging industrial technologies.
The agreement outlines multiple dimensions of collaboration between the two universities. Faculty and researcher exchange programs will allow both institutions to share expertise, while training modules for students will help develop new skills aligned with current energy industry demands. Through the joint supervision of research activities, students and scholars from both sides will have access to advanced learning opportunities and interdisciplinary mentorship.
The cooperation also extends to joint academic activities such as workshops and seminars focusing on various aspects of battery design, manufacturing, performance evaluation, and environmental impact. These sessions will be held regularly, facilitating the transfer of knowledge and emerging research findings between Pakistan and China. In addition, the agreement paves the way for the introduction of new academic courses tailored around battery technology, aiming to build a workforce ready to support the energy sector’s evolving needs.
Another critical component of the collaboration is innovation. Both universities aim to co-develop patentable solutions by leveraging research insights to create commercially viable technologies in the field of energy storage. This ambition supports local and regional industries working on electric transportation, smart grids, and off-grid power solutions.
To ensure consistent progress and transparency, a joint coordination committee will be formed, comprising representatives from both UoS and ZST. This committee will meet annually to review ongoing projects, assess research impact, and explore additional areas for collaboration in battery and energy technologies.
The partnership signifies a strategic step for Pakistan in building local capabilities in energy innovation while strengthening its academic ties with international institutions.
