Xiaomi has launched the Redmi Kids Phone Watch Pro in China, adding a new flagship model to its children’s smartwatch lineup. The watch is priced at 1,199 yuan, roughly 175 dollars, with an early bird price of 1,045 yuan available for the first batch of buyers.

The watch features an octagonal display with a camera placed on the top bezel, alongside a flip up rear camera housing. Both the front and rear cameras use 5 megapixel sensors, allowing children to take selfies as well as outward facing photos, an unusual dual camera setup for a device in this category.

One of the watch’s standout features is its ability to continue sharing location data even after the device powers down completely. Using a dual core setup combined with Xiaomi’s Find My network of connected devices, the watch can keep transmitting location information for around five days after shutting off, relaying its position through nearby Xiaomi devices. The feature is designed to give parents a last known location for their child even if the watch runs out of battery entirely, addressing a common limitation in most kids’ smartwatches that stop tracking the moment the battery dies.

The device also includes Xiaomi’s third generation AI floor positioning system, which the company says can identify not only the building a child is in but the specific floor as well, updating every second to give parents a near live view through the companion app. The system can also recognise subway stations, record a child’s daily commute, and save route history for parents to review later, building on a floor positioning feature Xiaomi first introduced with its Kids Watch AMOLED model earlier this year.

Beyond location tracking, the Redmi Kids Phone Watch Pro supports heart rate and blood oxygen monitoring, along with 18 sport modes and five fitness assessments. A water proximity alert feature can automatically notify parents if a child gets close to a lake, pool, or river. On the social side, the watch allows children to add friends by tapping devices together, a feature that also works with watches from some rival brands, and supports child safe versions of WeChat and QQ for calls and messages. Parents can monitor wear time, app usage, and activity through a dashboard, set screen time limits, and enable a school mode that automatically disables the watch during class hours.

The Redmi Kids Phone Watch Pro is currently available only in China, with Xiaomi yet to announce international availability. The launch continues Xiaomi’s steady expansion of its children’s wearable lineup, positioning the Pro model as its most feature rich kids’ smartwatch to date, combining safety focused tracking technology with social and entertainment features aimed at both parents and young users.
