The Higher Education Commission (HEC) is partnering with Emerald Publishing to host an interactive webinar focused on the responsible use of artificial intelligence in research and academic publishing. Titled “From Insights to Integrity: Using AI Responsibly in Research & Publishing,” the session will examine how artificial intelligence is changing research and publishing practices while highlighting the importance of maintaining academic integrity. The webinar is scheduled for Thursday, September 17, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM Pakistan Standard Time. Researchers, academics, students and other members of the research and publishing community can register online to attend the session.
The webinar will explore the growing role of artificial intelligence across different stages of the academic publishing process. One of the areas highlighted for discussion is editorial workflows, where artificial intelligence tools are increasingly being considered for tasks related to manuscript processing, content assessment and publication management. The session will also examine the use of artificial intelligence in peer review, an area where new technologies are creating opportunities as well as questions around confidentiality, accuracy and responsible use. As research institutions and publishers adopt more artificial intelligence-enabled tools, understanding where these technologies can be used appropriately is becoming increasingly important for researchers and publishing professionals.
Authorship and research dissemination will also form part of the webinar’s agenda. The growing availability of generative artificial intelligence tools has raised questions about how researchers should acknowledge the use of artificial intelligence in preparing research, whether artificial intelligence can be recognised as an author and how responsibility for published work should be assigned. The session is expected to address these issues within the broader context of research integrity and responsible research practices. Participants will also have an opportunity to learn about publication policies related to artificial intelligence and how researchers can use emerging tools while continuing to meet established academic and ethical standards.
The session will take place online on September 17 and will run for one hour, from noon to 1 PM Pakistan Standard Time. HEC and Emerald Publishing are inviting interested participants to register in advance through the provided registration platform. The webinar comes as artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into academic research, from assisting with literature analysis and writing to supporting editorial and peer-review processes. By focusing on the relationship between technological innovation and academic integrity, the session aims to help participants better understand responsible artificial intelligence practices in research and publishing. Interested participants can register through the official webinar registration link shared by HEC and Emerald Publishing to secure their place.
