Minister of State for IT, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, has taken a decisive step to recoup billions of rupees in exemptions granted to Long Distance International (LDI) companies. In a meeting with industry representatives and telecom officials, she expressed strong disapproval of the substantial discounts previously offered.
The IT Ministry is set to issue a new directive within the next 24 hours, mandating that LDI companies pay the full principal amount for license renewals. The minister has made it clear that no licenses will be renewed without complete payment.
To accommodate the industry, the new policy will allow for installment payments. However, outstanding dues will be addressed in accordance with court decisions. This move is expected to have significant implications for the telecom sector.
