Tech Valley, in partnership with inDrive, held a Digital Safar orientation session in Islamabad, welcoming around 70 inDrive driver-partners, their children, and their families ahead of the training, according to a post by Tech Valley on LinkedIn. The session introduced families to Google’s Be Internet Awesome and Gemini Academy curricula, which are designed to help students in Grades 6 to 10 build digital safety and artificial intelligence (AI) literacy skills. Children took part in live question-and-answer sessions during the interactive orientation, while parents welcomed the initiative and said they valued the chance for their children to learn practical skills for safer and more informed digital experiences.
The programme is split into two learning tracks by grade. Students in Grades 6 to 8 will learn how to identify online scams, protect personal information, and practise responsible digital citizenship, which are the main topics of Be Internet Awesome. Students in Grades 8 to 10 will explore AI prompting, image generation, and the safe and creative use of AI tools, following the Gemini Academy curriculum. Tech Valley said the orientation marked the start of Digital Safar’s learning journey for these families, and that bringing driver-partners on board is meant to help parents support their children in navigating the digital world with more confidence, awareness, and responsibility.
The Islamabad session is part of a wider partnership between inDrive and Tech Valley. TechJuice reported earlier that the two organisations will offer free digital safety and AI literacy classes to 900 children of ride-hail drivers across Pakistan and Egypt, through a three-week programme of live online classes for Grades 6 to 10. Awais Saeed, Country Lead of inDrive Pakistan, said the programme supports drivers who work hard to build better futures for their children and that every child deserves the chance to prepare for the future. Saba Kalsoom, Head of AI Strategy and Operations at Tech Valley, said students will learn to spot a fake message, protect their accounts, and use Gemini as a learning partner instead of a shortcut.
Digital Safar is not new to Pakistan. Tech Valley, a Google for Education partner, launched it in 2023 with Jazz, using Be Internet Awesome and Google CS First to teach internet safety and coding to students aged 9 to 14. Google has said the programme has trained more than 300,000 students and 5,000 educators in digital citizenship, combining Be Internet Awesome content with Gemini Academy training. The inDrive edition is aimed at a group that few digital literacy programmes reach, since many such programmes target urban school students or professionals, and drivers in the gig economy often have little access to this kind of training for their children. The post does not say when the classes will begin or how many of the 70 attendees are enrolled, so those details will depend on further announcements from Tech Valley and inDrive.
