Pakistan’s aviation sector is facing a growing challenge as aircraft operating in and around Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad airports experience GPS navigation disruptions. According to an official notice issued to pilots and air traffic controllers, these signal interferences have been affecting flight paths, raising concerns over aviation safety and operational efficiency.

Air traffic control (ATC) has instructed pilots to report any GPS-related difficulties immediately, providing details of the interference to ensure a swift response from aviation authorities. The disruptions, attributed primarily to frequency interference, have the potential to impact flight routes, causing unintended deviations in aircraft trajectories. Aviation authorities are actively investigating the source of the interference while enforcing strict monitoring and safety protocols to minimize risks.

Pilots encountering navigation difficulties have been advised to take immediate steps to maintain safe and continuous flight operations. In such cases, they are required to notify ATC for further assistance, ensuring that necessary corrective measures are taken to mitigate any safety threats. The notice also emphasizes the importance of pilot vigilance, stressing that GPS-related disturbances could compromise the precision and reliability of navigation systems.

With air traffic increasing in Pakistan’s airspace, aviation officials are prioritizing efforts to address these technical challenges. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is working closely with airlines, regulatory bodies, and technical experts to diagnose the cause of the interference and implement countermeasures. Ensuring uninterrupted GPS functionality is critical for flight safety, particularly as modern aviation relies heavily on satellite-based navigation systems for accurate routing and landing procedures.

The issue of GPS signal interference is not unique to Pakistan, as similar challenges have been reported globally, often linked to electronic jamming, environmental factors, or technical malfunctions. However, the frequency and scale of disruptions in Pakistan’s airspace have prompted urgent action from authorities. As the aviation industry continues to expand, ensuring robust and interference-free navigation systems remains a top priority for flight safety and operational efficiency.
