In order to engage the citizens of Karachi in real time so they can effectively report crimes, the Sindh Police has an official Whatsapp Helpline and Facebook page. Furthermore, the local police also hope to form a 2000-strong Rapid Police patrolling squad to better serve the city.
The Whatsapp Helpline number for Sindh Police is: 0343-5142770 and the official Facebook page is to be called Karachi Police Office.
Karachi Range Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG) Dr Amir Ahmed Shaikh announced the initiative during his visit to Sindh Industrial Trading Estate (SITE) where he inaugurated the SITE Self Security System (SSSS).
The system was developed by industrialists in the area that houses approximately 2,400 factories. The system has been developed on site without any external help and is also being operated by representatives of SITE-based industrialists. The SSSS comes with 143 CCTV cameras at different locations. About 28 pickets and protective walls have been constructed in 31 locations.
At the inauguration the AIG said that he has spoken with the Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah and has requested the funding for an extensive CCTV network all over Karachi as part of a safe city project as seen in other cities.
