Indus AI Summit, a central feature of Indus AI Week 2026, is set to bring together senior policymakers, international experts, and industry leaders to outline Pakistan’s approach to artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, and national development. The summit will open with a keynote address by Ms Shaza Khawaja, Federal Minister for IT & Telecommunication, who is widely recognised for her role in advancing Pakistan’s AI and digital transformation agenda. Her address is expected to establish the strategic direction for the week, focusing on how artificial intelligence can support economic growth, strengthen competitiveness, and enable inclusive progress across sectors. Organizers say her remarks will provide clarity on policy priorities and the steps required to translate national ambition into measurable outcomes.
The agenda also includes participation from global thought leaders with deep experience in building technology ecosystems. Dr Michael Sung, Founding Executive Director at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and an expert in digital finance and AI infrastructure, will deliver a keynote titled Open, Global, and Sovereign AI Ecosystems. His session will examine the architectural foundations required for nations to develop independent AI capabilities while remaining connected to international innovation networks. Drawing on his work in cross border technology collaboration and open source platforms, Dr Sung is expected to discuss how countries can balance sovereignty with openness, and how Pakistan can build indigenous strengths without isolating itself from global advancements. His insights are positioned as particularly relevant for policymakers and technology architects working on long term national frameworks.
Strategic planning and public sector transformation will form another key theme of the summit. Mr Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhary, Federal Minister for Planning & Development, will address how artificial intelligence aligns with national planning, economic transformation, and large scale growth initiatives. His perspective is likely to connect AI adoption with broader development goals, linking technology deployment to productivity, governance, and public service delivery. Adding to the international perspective, Dominic Williams, founder of DFINITY, will present a session titled AI Native Government Designing Institutions for Intelligence, Autonomy, and Scale. He will explore how governments can move beyond simply adding digital tools to existing bureaucratic systems and instead design institutions that embed autonomy, transparency, and efficiency through decentralized and intelligent infrastructure. This invitation only session is expected to provide a detailed view of how sovereign digital systems can reshape public administration.
Industry and infrastructure leaders will also contribute to the discussions. Hatem Bamatraf, President and CEO of PTCL & Ufone 4G representing global e& group, will focus on the role of telecommunications and digital backbone services in enabling an AI powered economy, outlining practical steps to convert technological capacity into national impact. H.E. Dr. Aisha Bint Butti Bin Bishr, member of Global Diwan and former Director General of Smart Dubai, will address governance, trust, and institutional responsibility in her keynote on AI as a national capability. Her session will consider how countries can build confidence in intelligent systems while protecting sovereign choice. The program will also feature Hassan Abbas, CEO of Sky47, who will discuss the transition from reliance on external AI systems to the development of homegrown capabilities, sharing a roadmap for building localized intelligence and self reliance. Together, these keynotes reflect a broad based effort to connect leadership, policy, and technical expertise as Pakistan advances its AI agenda during Indus AI Week.
