Pakistan’s information and communication technology sector continues to post strong growth, with export remittances increasing by 18.5 percent during the first five months of the current fiscal year. According to official figures, ICT export remittances reached US$ 1.799 billion between July and November of FY 2025 26, underlining the expanding role of technology driven services in the national economy. The sector has also reported US$ 356 million in ICT services exports for November 2025 alone, reflecting sustained demand for Pakistani technology services across international markets and reinforcing the sector’s position as a consistent foreign exchange earner.
The latest data also highlights a trade surplus of US$ 1.583 billion generated by the ICT sector during the same five month period. This performance places technology exports among the strongest contributors to Pakistan’s external account, outperforming several traditional export segments. Industry observers note that the relatively low import dependence of ICT services, combined with rising global demand for software development, IT enabled services, and digital solutions, continues to strengthen the sector’s surplus position. The steady month on month inflows suggest that Pakistani firms are maintaining delivery capacity while expanding their international client base, particularly in North America, Europe, and the Middle East.
Officials point to sustained policy support from Ministry of Information Technology & Telecommunication as a key factor behind the sector’s upward trajectory. MoITT has been working to strengthen regulatory frameworks, improve ease of doing business for technology companies, and support talent development through various national initiatives. These measures are aimed at enabling local firms to scale operations, attract international contracts, and retain skilled professionals within the country. The ministry’s focus on improving digital infrastructure and facilitating cross border payments for IT exporters has also contributed to smoother operations for companies engaged in global service delivery.
The growth in ICT export remittances further reflects the increasing maturity of Pakistan’s digital economy, where technology services are becoming a central pillar rather than a supplementary activity. Software development, cloud based services, business process outsourcing, and emerging areas such as data analytics and cybersecurity are playing a larger role in export earnings. With November’s export figure standing at US$ 356 million, the sector has demonstrated its ability to maintain momentum even amid global economic uncertainty. Policymakers view this trend as an encouraging signal for long term economic diversification, as digital services offer scalability without the heavy capital requirements associated with traditional industries. The continued emphasis on reforms and sector specific facilitation by MoITT is expected to support further expansion of ICT exports as the fiscal year progresses.
