The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT), through Ignite National Technology Fund, has announced two major national initiatives aimed at supporting Pakistan’s startup ecosystem and advancing the country’s innovation infrastructure. The newly launched Pakistan Startup Fund (PSF) and the Prime Minister’s Cloud Enablement Programme for Startups represent significant steps toward enabling early-stage entrepreneurs to scale their businesses and adopt cutting-edge digital tools. Both initiatives were launched under the broader Digital Nation Pakistan Vision, reinforcing the government’s commitment to fostering a sustainable technology-driven economy.
The Pakistan Startup Fund introduces a model of equity-free financial support for startups by offering grants of up to 30 percent of an investment round. This approach aims to address persistent early-stage funding gaps that have long hindered local startups from scaling effectively. By reducing risk for investors and bridging financial shortfalls, the fund is expected to attract more venture capital participation, both locally and internationally. The fund’s structure encourages co-investment and reduces the dependence of young startups on limited private financing channels, helping to create a more vibrant and self-sustaining entrepreneurial ecosystem in Pakistan.
Complementing this financial initiative, the Prime Minister’s Cloud Enablement Programme will offer startups access to advanced cloud infrastructure through partnerships with leading global providers including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and Huawei Cloud. The programme will enable local startups to adopt scalable and secure digital infrastructure, encouraging innovation in sectors such as artificial intelligence, FinTech, HealthTech, and eCommerce. By lowering technology adoption barriers, this initiative aims to accelerate digital transformation and position Pakistani startups on par with international competitors in terms of operational capability and technical sophistication.
Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Khawaja, who attended the launch ceremony, reaffirmed the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the national innovation ecosystem. She highlighted that these initiatives mark progress in empowering local entrepreneurs and building a foundation for long-term digital growth aligned with Pakistan’s economic goals. During the event, top startups under the BridgeStart Pakistan program were also recognized for their achievements, symbolizing the growing role of Ignite as a catalyst for startup development and innovation-led growth.
With the introduction of the Pakistan Startup Fund and the Cloud Enablement Programme, MoITT and Ignite are building an integrated framework to unify government support, investor participation, and technology access. These measures are expected to enhance the competitiveness of local startups, drive digital adoption, and strengthen the foundations of a more connected and innovation-driven Pakistan.
